Borsheim, Waskom win; Kamiakin, North Central dominate

Freshman Ella Borsheim of Bellarmine Prep maintained her perfrect season Saturday at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco, taking the WIAA Class 4A girls cross country title in 17:36.1.

Borsheim beat a strong field that included Issaquah sophomore Julia David-Smith (18:01.7) and two-time champion Lake Stevens senior Taylor Roe (18:16.0 for third).

One of the most dominant performances of the day came from the North Central girls in Class 3A, where five non-seniors scored 21 points. Sophomore Allie Janke (17:59.1) and junior Erinn Hill (18:34.1) went 1-3 and the spread on five was 53 seconds. 

North Central will contend with Summit OR, Boise ID and Jesuit OR in a blockbuster girls regional next week at NXR Northwest. 

Glacier Peak won the girls 4A title with 77 points. 

Joe Waskom of Mt. Si ran 15:16.2 to overcome Eisenhower junior Jonas Price (15:17.1) for the Class 4A boys title. Waskom was third in the race in 2016 and 10th last year. 

The 4A title moved back to the west side as Tahoma eked out a close victory over, Central Valley 94-96. Tahoma's Nos. 2-3 runners Brian Martinez and Chandler Nill proved the difference makers in the razor close competition. 

Kamiakin, one of the boys top teams in the country, had no problem in Class 3A. The Braves scored 37 points and packed six runners in to the top 21. 

Johan Correa of Kennewick won the 3A race in 15:26.4 and Bainbridge's Sebastian Belkin was second in 15:29.2.

In Class 2A, West Valley Spokane needed a sixth-runner tiebreaker to win the team title after a deadlock at 118 points with Bellingham. Emma Garza, in 67th, was West Valley's sixth. The team's top finisher, Annika Esvelt, placed 23rd. Amelia Pullen of Washougal won the race in 18:04.5.

Sehome won the 2A boys title with 84 points. Pullman's Eliason Kabasenche won the race in 15:44.7.

Lakeside (Nine Mile) swept the team titles in Class 1A, but they were both very close. The boys won a sixth-runner tiebreaker with Leavenworth after both teams were knotted at 113 points. The girls beat King's 108-114.

Naomi Smith of King's won the 2A girls race in 18:16.7. Adam Briejer of Charles Wright Academy won the boys race in 16:19.5.

In Class 1B/2B, Austen Apperson of Adna was the class of the field, running 15:56.4 to win his second small-school state title by 25 seconds. Novie McCabe of Liberty Bell won the girls race in 18:27.4, by a margin of 49 seconds. Liberty Bell (girls) and NW Christian of Lacey (boys) won the team titles.
